Mini-Journal Making
What I did for summer vacation.
While Ol’ Myrt here loves digging through dusty volumes in remote ancestral courthouses for evidence of progenitors, I must remember I’m the ancestor to several generations, and my story should be told as well.
Myrt’s Journal is where I’ve been crafting mini-journals to share my memories for my children & grandchildren to discover when they open that steamer trunk in the corner of my studio long after I’m gone.
That gets me wondering what are you doing to tell your story?

I confess I haven't gotten started yet, but I was inspired by Jane Hutcheon's interview of James Hagerty, author of "Yours Truly, An Obituary Writer’s Guide to Telling Your Story," https://bookshop.org/p/books/yours-truly-an-obituary-writer-s-guide-to-telling-your-story-james-r-hagerty/18378306. In a nutshell, he recommends writing your own obituary in a series of letters to yourself, or whatever else it takes to get the job done. It's a fun interview with Jane here: https://projectkin.substack.com/p/fmn-james-r-bob-hagerty-feb-2025
I have been attending a monthly Writing Your Life Story Club: with Janet Few, exclusive to Gold Members of the Society Of Genealogists last time we discussed clothes the next one is homes. These are helpful as we discuss things and they bring back memories. It also makes you think more about what you need to add to those photographs you need to organise.
