I can certainly relate. Lately my passion is about story telling. (Apparently this gene was handed down to me from my mother.) And since she passed several years ago, it feels more urgent in me. And like you, I also love to create junk journals. Several dedicated to my mom, her parents and siblings - and their stories, my memories. My only problem? There aren't enough hours in the day!
I loved reading this. My focus over the past few years and continues to be telling the stories of our family. The older I get, the more the urgency I feel. I do still need to organise my artifacts.
Great post! So often, genealogists overlook telling their own story but it is family history of the future (the future past) so an important thing to do (says she who is guilty of not doing it so far!)
Oh, dear Myrt! As you know, I love family stories told in any form imaginable. Though the term "junk journal" feeds on the toss-away mindset scrapbooks started with, these pieces are gems. Like heirloom quilts, they draw on a tradition of hand-worked creativity. By creating artifacts kids can handle and explore, they turn the essential family stories into legends our children will remember.
Maybe it's time to share these ideas in a project recipe. I'll reach out directly. 😉
What beautiful ways to be a good ancestor!! I’m sure most of us can remember the thrill of the first family artifact we held and the instant concrete connection we felt. Lovely lovely ideas - photos and handcrafted items and your words for your fam, and now preserved a digital media shared with us all too. Thank you!

I have the same “problem.” 🤣
Me too! We definitely need more time! 😁
